Advantage
Easiest means to supply oxygen to fermentation yeasts (less risk of overflow than pumping with aeration method).
Complement to Micro-oxygenation wich can be used in tanks or barrels (modifies the wine's reducing power linked to controlled oxydation)
Usefull tool for lees management in barrels. Saves labour and decreases wine losses.
